New wines for summer have arrived in the Wine Dept. at H-E-B – three in fact that we’ve handpicked for those lazy days in the Sun!
Up first, a 2012 vintage Gran Codorniu Cava from the Codorniu Winery. It’s a blend of Pinot Noir and Rosé, produced from 25-year old vines (the oldest vines in all of Spain)! If you like bubbly, this one is fruity and refreshing for about $20. Food pairings like chicken fried steak, grilled fish or seafood salad would work well with the cherry and strawberry flavors here…a perfect South Texas summer wine.
The Año Verde or “Green Year” wine is out of Santa Barbara. This Pinot Noir has blackberry, strawberry and hints of licorice on its flavor profile. It’s quite good! A soft, velvety red that retails for around $19 a bottle. Try pairing with salmon, duck or just by itself. The winemaker is Bill Nancarrow who used to run Duckhorn.
Paso Robles is the location for our third selection – the Gunsight Rock Cabernet Sauvignon. Gunsight’s is a lighter style, full body cab with flavors of blackberry, plum, fig and hints of chocolate on the finish. Great with ribeye or perhaps a creamy mushroom risotto… 🙂
Don’t forget! When you buy six or more bottles at H-E-B – even those on-sale or 1.5 liter – you’ll still receive a 10% discount off your purchase. For more delicious recipes and fun food and wine pairing ideas, subscribe to my newsletter.
