Fans of big reds are in for a real treat! The Zinfandel is a premium wine that’s consistently rated by Wine Spectator magazine as a Top 100 Wine in all of the World! Some of the most famous areas for planting and harvesting grapes (Dry Creek, Alexander Valley) make for Zinfandels with a richer concentration, translating to a finished product that has more vibrance, mineral composition and structure to it. Or just a fuller taste!
Up until the 1950’s, most vineyards were head pruned in California. Zinfandel was the dominate choice for planters in Napa Valley and Sonoma. In fact, around 90% used this ‘boss’ grape because of it’s softer texture which compliments the Spring time soil – Wow, 90%! Since 1895, Seghesio Family Vineyards have followed suit and really delivered in their version of this historic vino. Watch my interview with Pete Seghesio…we sipped, savored and talked food pairing ideas as well!
