There’s a tiny little restaurant tucked into a well-worn strip center on the near north side that’s known for its zesty, tasty Thai food and its very reasonable prices.
This casual, cozy nook is a great place to meet up with friends, a spot where you can order multiple dishes shared family-style without breaking the bank.
I first ate at Thai Dee some years back. It was a fave getaway after a busy show on WOAI TV. The little spot still shines.
And, enough agree to make scoring a table sometimes challenging on the weekends. A Bikram instructor I knew who lived in Thailand told our class that Thai Dee is as good as anything she had in Thailand. High praise!
The menu is extensive and can be a little overwhelming on your first visit. Here are the must have items we love…
Shrimp rolls – a wonderful appetizer of slices of shrimp with cilantro rolled in wonton paper and deep fried served with a tangy, fruity sauce. Spice it up a bit with the fiery red chili pepper condiment on the table.
Next, the Basil Noodles – a stir fry with wide rice noodles, tons of basil leaves, crushed garlic and sweet and hot peppers. Bring a Riesling or off dry wine to pair with this one! Love this dish.
Another stand out – the Green Curry. I order this dish with chicken and it’s delicious with its basil, eggplant and sweet and hot peppers all swimming in coconut milk with tantalizing curry spices.
Another star is the Nom Tok- tender, thin sliced pork tossed with lime juice, chili powder red onion and cilantro…very refreshing.
For dessert, house-made coconut ice cream and, if you’re lucky, their sliced mango with warm, sweet, sticky rice.
