Bud “The Pieman” Royer is quite the character. Always warm, jolly and not without a good story or two. We’ve covered Bud’s exceptional homemade pies – famous pies from Royers Round Top Cafe – on Goodtaste for a number of years. Recently, Bud suffered a bit of a health scare…a heart attack that’s caused he and his family to reevaluate Bud’s diet.
This jolly Pieman has pledged to lose 175 lbs and is already on his way…he’s lost more than 30 to date! He’s seeing a trainer twice a week, eating better and is on his way to recapturing his life! Unfortunately, insurance was not able to cover his 6-day hospital stint, nor the treatment he received during this time.
The family is asking customers and friends to please go to his Facebook page or the Cafe’s page to write some words of encouragement for Bud. You can also email [email protected] to leave some love. There is also a fundraiser planned to celebrate Bud and help raise funds to cover some of the medical costs.
So, mark your calendar for Sunday, January 25th for a cookout, cash bar, auction and more to celebrate Bud’s recovery. Festivities will be held at Henkel Hall in Round Top, TX from 11:30 – 3 p.m.
If you’d like to donate to the cause, be on a committee, or help the day of, send an email to the address above or phone the Cafe at: 979-249-3611.
