Food and wine are mood enhancers, emotional connectors, and perhaps therein lies our true attraction to both. Despite the obvious–we have to eat. 🙂 In a parallel sense, animals are the same. They nurture our souls as much as we provide love and fulfillment to theirs.
A lady I have a tremendous amount of respect for recently sent me an invitation to an art exhibit opening at the Greller Gallery, located on the second floor of the well respected Veterinary Referral Emergency Center (VREC). The exhibit, Accessories & Sweets, is a 10-piece painting series that incorporates both animals and food. Sounds bizarre…it was anything but!
Heather Gauthier is the artist, and she’s local. If her name isn’t familiar yet, chances are it will be soon. A collector recently bought a number of her works for the Doseum on Broadway, the new children’s museum, and commissioned her for even more. We’ve posted a few of her pieces here:
I can tell you standing in front of these creations absolutely is a mood lifter. The frivolity of ice cream scoops balancing on a majestic elephant’s tusk or the stack of colorful macarons on the pensive terrier’s head are both thought provoking and entertaining. You can’t help but smile, something we all probably need to do a lot more! Congrats Heather! 🙂
Exhibit Date:
May 30 – August 29, 2015
The Greller Gallery is open to the public with viewing hours Monday through Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm. A percentage of proceeds from art sales during the “Accessories & Sweets” exhibition will help support Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation.
