There’s a new spot to have lunch in Uptown, an historic home with a fascinating history and a very talented chef. For the first time in 30 years, the Manor House at The Houstonian is open to the public. You can get a look inside and a taste of their menu on our new TV series Goodtaste with Tanji this weekend on KPRC. The show airs bright and early at 5:30 a.m., so if you’re not an early riser, set your DVR.
I’ve been a long time fan of The Houstonian and loved working on the story, as I learned a lot of things I didn’t know. Some historical facts, others just fun insider Houston ‘news.’ One of our city’s movers and shakers, who calls The Houstonian his second home, is former NFL lineman turned Investment Planner Doug Dawson [above]. He tells us where to find the best table at Manor House for closing deals and why he likes doing business there.
But, it’s not all business at Manor House! There’s relaxation, beauty and awesome food! Classic dishes with creative twists reign supreme under the direction of Executive Chef Neal Cox, all with a bit of southern hospitality sprinkled in of course. This and so much more in such a beautiful setting.
Renowned architect John Staub built the historic home in 1955. Before the house was turned into a restaurant, it was once home to President George H.W. Bush when he was Director of the CIA and Vice President of the United States! He hosted world leaders in its walls for the historic G7 Summit in 1990 and the Summit Treaty was signed in its Botanical Room.
As a celebration of the newly ‘opened’ space, for the remainder of June, Manor House is offering a glass of champagne and “sweet treats” from Pastry Chef Catherine Rodriguez as party favors, in addition to a commemorative glass wine trivet with EACH private party entrée purchased.
Manor House is open for lunch guests and private luncheons, Monday through Friday, as well as evenings and weekends for private events. The Gold Room can accommodate up to 27 guests, while the Botanical Room has the capacity for 18 and the Wine Room, 6 guests.

Loved the show! Can’take wait to try some of the suggested wines as well as the eating establishments. Our daughter’s 22nd birthday is next week and we were wondering where we could take her for a nice celebration.
