When it comes to what’s most important to me, it’s spending time with my family! One restaurant in San Antonio is always the perfect setting to do just that. I’m talking about The Barn Door in Alamo Heights. It’s a place I’ve been going since my son was very young and I know many of my fellow San Antonians can say the same thing! It’s the perfect spot to celebrate Mom on Mother’s Day.
Whether you’re there to treat yourself or enjoy live music, rest assured, you’ll be treated to a delicious meal no matter what. The Barn Door features so many classic comfort foods — you know the ones I’m talking about! We’re talking giant Chicken Fried Ribeyes, endless homemade side dishes and those locally-loved Fried Mushrooms. Just wait until dessert!
But when I’m in the mood for something light, I always go for The Barn Door’s salads. Their salads are something spectacular with scratch-made salad dressings (I’m a huge fan of the Green Goddess dressing) and crafty toppings. I’m always tempted to take home one of their famous Twice Stuffed Baked Potatoes but especially when they pack it in an omelet.
My meat lovers will love The Barn Door’s juicy mesquite-grilled pork chop. It’s incredibly tender, as is their Chateau Briand, which is prepared for two people. I recommend ordering a side of their “JP” Twice Baked Potatoes (above), stuffed with bacon bits, sour cream, butter, jalapenos then smothered with melted cheddar cheese — sometimes I *just* order the potato! When lobster is in season, it’s truly a treat (top). The Barn Door’s lobster is topped with mashed potatoes and served with fresh asparagus.
Dessert is truly an experience at The Barn Door — I never leave without a slice of their Blueberry Cheesecake. You’ll find comfort food classics like a Peach Cobbler and a Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae there, too.
Don’t forget the wines! I found all of my wines at H-E-B.
