Cooler temperatures are headed our way, so we’re popping the cork on some reds and full-bodied wines! These nuanced bottles can stand up to your heartier roasts, casseroles and stews. As always, all of these wines (and many more!) can be found at your local H-E-B.
Let’s start with a baby Brunello: the Rosso Di Montalcino Col D’Orcia. This Sangiovese wine is perfect for pizza night, or anything coming off your grill. Just like Brunellos, baby Brunellos are bursting with bing cherry and baking spices. This bottle has lots of layers and is a fantastic food wine. $25
Next, another great wine for pairing—a barberra from the Piedmont region in italy. The Costa Di Bussia Barbera D’Alba has an enticing dose of French oak on the nose. While drinking, you’ll taste wild strawberries on the front and a big wild cherry finish. Because of their acidity and low tannins, Barberras pair wonderfully with rich foods (think creamy pasta or risotto with a touch of truffle). They’re also great pizza wines. $15
White wine fans, I’ll never leave you out! Let’s talk about Chardonnay. Louis Jadot Mâcon-Lugny Les Petites Pierres Chardonnay makes some fantastic wines and has been doing so since the mid 1800’s! The Mâcon-Lugny is a wonderful example: buttery and complex, but more reserved than a Napa Chardonnay. This bottle is fantastic with fish, spicy chicken fajitas, pasta, and aged cheese. $16
