Marais
If this tempting tower of fresh crab and shrimp doesn’t lure you to the magnificent Marais in Dickinson, perhaps their New Orleans style flaming Bananas Foster and chargrilled oysters will! This little taste of New Orleans just outside Houston is beaming with Crescent City charm from its bayou-front deck all the way to its stunning chandeliered dining room. Get your fix of jazzy jambalaya, creamy shrimp and grits, and gumbo so good, you’ll feel like you’re in the Big Easy already. This weekend, you’ll get the recipe for their Famous Bananas Foster Bread Pudding to fire up in your own kitchen.
Meat U Anywhere
Feast on finger-lickin’, melt-in-your-mouth barbecue goodness from Meat U Anywhere in North Texas. We heard “through the grape vine” of a spot that will bring the ‘cue to you in Grapevine! Belly up for smoky seasoned ribs and juicy brisket served next to sumptuous sides, like the cheesiest and creamiest jalapeño bacon mac n’ cheese ever (you’ll get the recipe for it this weekend). You’ll find their beefy barbecue wrapped up in big breakfast tacos, cheesy enchiladas, even inside tamales!
Monument Cafe
No Texas road trip is complete without a stop at Monument Cafe in Georgetown for sunny breakfast plates with savory potatoes and thick slabs of juicy ham. You’re in for fluffy pies and pancakes, with home-style classics like that will remind you of Grandma’s. This well-loved cafe is pure Texas – don’t be surprised if you hear a “Howdy” when you walk in! This weekend, get the recipe for Monument Cafe Chicken Breast Lombardy and their Key Lime Pie with cheesecake topping.

My sisters and I celebrated my aunt’s 95th birthday yesterday at Marais. While the atmosphere was amazing and the staff was VERY accommodating, the food was unforgettable. I was pleased to see them featured on Good Taste today with Tanji. Everything she said about the place was absolutely true.

That is so great to hear, Mary. I’m so glad you and your family had such an enjoyable time at Marais and happy belated birthday to your aunt!

I am planning a small personal shower for a friend’s second message. It’s just for close friends. Can you recommend in the San Antonio (preferred) or Hill Country area for HIGH TEA parties? I thought this would be perfect. Thanks!
Tanji says
Well, that’s a challenge with Covid right now. I would look for a hotel looking for private events right now – they’re there! Maybe Hotel Emma at Pearl or the Saint Anthony downtown has some beautiful rooms that would be perfect for high tea. Other options would be restaurants willing to do a high tea type event. Silo’s comes to mind, maybe even Bird Bakery??? Please let me know if you need more ideas…not sure I was real helpful as the choices are somewhat limited right now.
