This week in Goodtaste for the Soul, Tanji takes on a heavenly mystery that has baffled even scientists. The origin of a mysterious staircase in the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico has drawn visitors from all over the world. According to local lore, when this little chapel was finished in 1878 the sisters there prayed to the patron saint of carpentry- St. Joseph- to help them find a way to build a staircase to reach the choir loft in the chapel. Their prayers were answered in the form of a stranger who rode in from the desert on a donkey and offered to build a staircase for them. The famous spiral staircase there was made from wood that even scientists say they can’t determine where it is from. How did that wood get there? Who was the stranger who vanished after completing the stairs? Was all this a gift from Heaven? Tune in to find out!
