Texas has no shortage of world-class restaurants, breathtaking scenery and places you won’t find anywhere else in the country! That’s why we’re launching our monthly Goodtaste Getaways segment for the gourmet traveler, whether you want to experience the beckoning beauty of the Hill Country, catch a concert in Austin, linger down the historic River Walk in San Antonio, or experience uptown nightlife in Houston!
Send us your ideas for next month to goodtaste@tanjipatton.com and dine with us!
Hill Country
Is there really a more beautiful place than the Texas Hill Country? We don’t think so! Peggy’s on the Green in Boerne will be your most memorable meal this summer, we just know it! It’s set inside the Ye Kendall Inn on Cibolo Creek, a stagecoach stop built in 1859! Take in the historical sites and boutique shopping and then make a reservation for Mark Bohanan’s newest restaurant — all inspired by recipes from his mother, Peggy.

Spicewood
It’s not summer unless you’ve made a trip for some tempting Texas barbecue! You can count on the pit masters at It’s All Good BBQ in Spicewood to serve up a finger lickin’ plate of their blue ribbon brisket that’s sure to be your most memorable meal this summer!
We caught up with this trio of guys in our Barbecue All-Stars Episode. Try it out for yourself — and share a photo of your messy mugs when you do! Can’t make the trip? Try their Tater Tot Casserole at home!
Austin
Wandering 6th Street in Austin or fresh off a bike ride around the city? Grove Wine Bar & Kitchen has something for everyone in your group, from creamy pastas to big Kobe beef burgers. But the real “WOW” factor is the massive wine cellar, featuring 200 different wines!
Sit and sip under their oak and cottonwood tree-lined patio for the full effect, or experience it here!
San Antonio
You’re bound to need something sweet after walking San Antonio’s River Walk. Fortunately, Bakery Lorraine at the Historic Pearl Brewery isn’t too far off the path. Step out of Texas and into Paris, where you’ll be delighted by delicate French pastries, from macarons to exquisite eclairs!
The fabulous owners spoiled us with goodies when we visited and we’re sure they’ll do the same for you. Watch what makes their desserts so “Insta-worthy” here!
Houston
Houston’s food scene is as vibrant as its nightlife, with flavors from all over the world! It’s why KUU‘s visionary chef came to Houston after working in some of the most revered Japanese restaurants in London and New York City.
Tempting tapas plates and sashimi so fresh you’ll want to order double for the table! Global gourmet, coming right up!
Galveston
Take in the Gulf views at The Spot in Galveston, just a quick walk from Paradise Pier. There’s normally a line out the door, but believe me: it’s worth the wait! Colossal burgers, crunch po’ boys, ahi tuna fish tacos [below], and bacon-wrapped Gulf shrimp make this hot spot a vacation destination.
