Giant pans of beautiful, exotic paellas and tons of folks gobbling down every single bite of the tasty Spanish dish made the first ever Paella Cook-Off at the Pearl a huge success. San Antonio’s finest chefs along with top chefs from around the country competed to see who would win the prize for best paella. I joined the competition and so did a buddy of mine from the Express News foodie journalist Ed Tijerina.
It was intense. We had about two hours to create our paellas – easier said than done, believe me! It was wildy challenging, fun and exciting. I had a blast with my co-competitors Chef Isaac Cantu from Watermark Grill, Chef Jason Dady and Chef Ben Ford, actor Harrison Ford’s son. Chef Ford was the winner of the event. His popular restaurant in the LA area is The Filling Station.
Local Chef Extraordinaire Johnny Hernandez spearheaded the event…watch for his new restaurant La Gloria that will be opening at Pearl on the river bank in late spring. Can’t wait till we get to do this again next year!
