If you’ve steered away from Texas wines because they don’t taste like Napa wines or French wines, it’s time to revisit the Lone Star vinos. A Texas cabernet will never taste like a Napa cab because the terroirs in the two regions are totally different—different soils, climates, etc.
But, over the past ten years, Texas wine makers have made big strides when it comes to finding what grapes grow best here and make the best wines. One example of a great Texas grape find is Viognier. The grape is one of the noble grapes of France that produces a beautifully fragrant, dry white wine. Growers are discovering it does well here in Texas producing some very lovely wines here as well. Sommelier Steven Krueger, the director of wine at the Westin La Cantera, compares three of Texas best Viogniers.
