These summer days are just packed, aren’t they? With endless amounts of errands and running around to do this summer, I find that the best ways to unwind are often the simplest. Case in point: how about an easy dish…one that requires very little preparation but packs a lot of flavor.
As you know, I love a good glass of wine. But in the summer, sometimes an iced-cold beer is best. Matt Wheeler, the Sommelier at the H-E-B Bunker Hill, has some suggestions on finding a beer to beat the heat. Alamo Golden Ale is a smooth beer.

What a way to enjoy the Texas Hill Country! The fabulous Westin La Cantera recently renovated the resort’s signature bar Steinheimer’s Lounge. And the re-do is worth its weight in gold! There is a very romantic story about the bar’s namesake, Karl Steinheimer. He started out as a pirate. Then, became a miner and he struck gold in Mexico.
Imagine a fresh tuna steak quickly grilled so all the flavor and moisture are seared-in. Now, serve it on buttery brioche toast with bacon, lettuce and tomato. Is your mouth watering yet? This is a popular new menu item at the very cool Zinc Wine Bar and Bistro. Super simple and perfect for Father’s Day….
Here’s a twist on traditional escargot from the romantic Fig Tree. Chef Byron Bergeron sauteés garlic in butter and then de-glazes the pan with Rosè, which gives this rich dish a delicious Mediterranean aspect. Cream and ground Chorizo round out the incredible flavors.
