Flock to Houston, everyone, because June is the month to visit some of my favorite restaurants in the Uptown area. From now through June 30th, an impressive line-up of chefs will be offering prix-fixe menus at their restaurants as part of the inaugural Summer Dine Around. The event, which includes a diverse group of 13 restaurants, gives diners the opportunity to try new places or visit old favorites and choose from a two- or three-course prix-fixe menu for less than $45. Some participating spots will also be offering lunch prix-fixe menus for only $20.
Centered along Post Oak Boulevard, the popular Uptown neighborhood is home to many restaurants that are an amazing reflection of the diversity of this city’s booming food scene. Through the Summer Dine Around, you can choose to have Thai food one night and Tex-Mex the next, all for a serious deal. Two of my do-not-miss suggestions are La Table, a bright and airy Provence-inspired modern French restaurant, and Songkran Thai Kitchen, where the chef couple Jett and Jira Hurapan turn out sophisticated traditional Thai food brimming with fresh chilies, herbs, garlic and aromatic spices. Other restaurants taking part in the event include Berryhill Baja Grill, Café Annie, Etoile Cuisine et Bar, Luby’s Kitchen Table, McCormick and Schmick’s, Morton’s Steakhouse, Moxie’s Grill and Bar, Oceanaire Seafood, Piatto Ristorante, Post Oak Grill and Willie G’s Seafood.
In addition to offering special prix-fixe menus for a serious deal, each of these restaurants will also make a donation to the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation for each meal sold during Houston’s Summer Dine Around. Getting to eat incredible food while supporting a good cause? Count me in.
