Head to your nearby orchard because it’s finally apple season, folks! The crisp fall air always puts me in the mood to cook and what is more versatile than an apple? Baked into a pie crust, sautéed and ladled over pork chops or cooked down into a thick apple butter – there are unlimited possibilities. To celebrate the arrival of apple season, I visited my friends at News 4 San Antonio and shared some treats from Goodtaste favorite Apple Store Bakery in Medina. Oh, and did I mention that wine pairs beautifully with apples? We also have some wine-friendly bottles for you, all available at your local H-E-B. Watch the video HERE and find more details on my wine picks below.
MY WINE FINDS
Skyfall Vineyards Chardonnay is not your classic buttery chardonnay. It’s robust and tastes of toasted hazelnuts and Asian pear, plus light notes of apple. Perfect with a buttery apple tarte tatin. $12.99
Next up, we have Louis Jadot Chateau Des Jacques Bourgogne. This French wine has some undertones of toasty bread, a pleasantly savory pairing to your apple pie or crisp. $15.98
You all know I’m a firm believer in rosé all day and all year – it pairs with just about everything! This Gerard Bertrand Cote Des Roses Rose Mag in particular will be fantastic alongside a roasted pork loin with apple stuffing. The dry strawberry and raspberry notes bring a touch of fruit to any sweet and savory dish. $27.98
Last but not least, we have Licor 43, a Spanish liqueur made from a secret family recipe. Named for the 43 ingredients that go into making it, this unique liqueur is citrusy, loaded with herbs and spices and tastes of mild vanilla. It is phenomenal in hot, boozy apple cider.
As always, you can always find these picks and more at your local H-E-B. Licor 43 can be found at most liquor stores*
