On this weekend’s ALL-NEW episode of Goodtaste, we head to some of the best spots in Louisiana that show what Cajun cooking is all about!
Blink and you’ll miss it! Just off of I-10, outside of Lafayette, sits a hands-on seafood experience that’s fun for the whole family. At Cajun Claws Seafood Boils they make their own secret spice blend that’s used on everything from the crawfish to the Dungeness crab. We visit their boiler room to see how it’s made and get a lesson on cracking crawfish the “Cajun way” from some hungry locals.
Cajun Country is full of surprises, but the food at Dupuy’s Seafood & Steak in Abbeville is a cut above the rest. This world-famous restaurant has been serving up seafood for over 150 years! We meet the owner who worked his way through the ranks as a dishwasher, to becoming the Executive Chef and being able to buy the restaurant he’s dedicated his life to! Don’t miss the Eggplant Abbeville, a tower of eggplant medallions layered with jumbo lump crab and smothered in Dupuy’s white wine caper cream sauce. Don’t worry—we snagged the recipe!
For Cajun classics with a twist, head to The Little Big Cup in Arnaudville. We dig into out-of-the-ordinary creations you won’t find in NOLA, like praline chicken and waffles, fried crawfish cornbread, and a cracklin-dusted fried mac-n-cheese burger (you read that right!). Yhe real star of the show, however, is the “Cajun Kevin” Po’Boy! It involves a hollowed baguette stuffed with a creamy sausage, shrimp, crab and crawfish gravy. This is one place you won’t leave hungry!
Craving some out-of-this-world food? Then head to Bayou Teche Brewing’s restaurant, Cajun Saucer, in Arnaudville. You’ll experience the classic combo of pizza and beer like no other! Here, you will find a Cajun coffee beer called “The Waking Dead” and spicy, wood-fired pizzas topped with everything from Cajun sausage to candied jalapeños. They serve epic slices like a Muffaletta-inspired pizza with Cajun Saucer’s signature tomato sauce, mozzarella, homemade olive salad, andouille, tasso ham, charuice and smoked sausage!
Plus, we take a trip to the bayou to catch crawfish, explore a charming Victorian mansion and catch a glimpse of some gators during a swamp tour!
