March Madness is kicking off, and we have so many Texas teams to cheer for! Since no game day is complete without some superb snacks, we’ve picked out our absolute favorite Tex-Mex recipes, from an elote-infused dip to some spicy sliders. Try one or make them all—let the games begin!
Chipotle-Lime Texas Trash Snack Mix
Game day snackers aren’t the pickiest bunch, and not many of them are looking to nosh on wild culinary experiments. That said, there’s nothing wrong with introducing flavors more complex than “salty.” This Texas Trash Snack Mix from Homesick Texan brings a little heat, with hints of chili powder, hot sauce, and Worcestershire sauce.
Oven-Fried Chicken Wings Al Pastor
Soaked overnight in a tequila, guajillo, and lime marinade, then sprinkled with pineapple, cilantro, and lime juice, these oven-fried chicken wings present an intriguing Tex-Mex take on the common Buffalo wing. Serious Eats transforms the flavors of the classic street taco into a sweet, sour, earthy, and finger-licking-good snack down to the pineapple and cilantro sprinkled on top.
Brown Sugar BBQ Baked Wings
Sweet, smoky and just a little spicy, the sauce for these wings comes together in 5 minutes and is crazy good! Created by bloggers, Adam and Joanne Gallagher.
Boudro’s Tableside Guac
Boudro’s in San Antonio is one of our favorite local spots. Their freshly prepared guac is made with diced avocado, roasted tomato, serrano pepper, cilantro and fresh lime, plus their secret ingredient, fresh squeezed orange juice. Now you can make it at home — we have the recipe!
Elote Queso
No game day is complete without queso! This version from Pinch of Yum is made with grilled corn and loads of cheese. To make things easier, you can do it all in one saucepan!
Popper Sliders
Loaded with sizzled chile peppers and cream cheese, these sliders from Rachael Ray are like a jalapeño popper in slider form!
Chicken Taquitos
Everyone loves a taquito! They’re essentially a rolled taco with many of the toppings like guac and sour cream. They are also traditionally shallow fried to get that beautifully crisp exterior. This version from Delish is baked, but it’s also a great opportunity to pull out the air fryer!
Sheet Pan Nachos
Messy? Maybe. Worth it? Yes. The secret to fully loaded nachos that won’t fall apart in your lap? This recipe from Southern Living uses a mixture of salsa and refried beans to act as a “glue” to help the toppings stick to the tortilla chips. Another pro tip? The sturdier the corn chips the better.
Hot Double Onion Dip
This savory dip will be the first thing devoured in your appetizer spread. In the recipe from Woman’s Day, they combine Gruyere and deeply caramelized onions for the ultimate gooey cheese dip. Serve with ruffle potato chips and crunchy crudités for a real game day winner.

FYI, the Southern Living recipe above for Sheet Pan Nachos does NOT use a mixture of refried beans and salsa to act as a “glue”. The Southern Living recipe that uses that mixture is Sheet Pan Nachos with Chorizo and Refried Beans. Both recipes sound delicious!

When you click on the title Sheet Pan Nachos it takes you to the correct recipe but when you click on “fully loaded nachos” below the picture it takes you to a different recipe.
