Texans love crawfish and there’s no better time to shine a spotlight on the tasty little mudbugs than National Crawfish Day, April 17! We’ve eaten a lot of crawfish around the state from good ol’ crawfish boils to crawfish etouffee and even crawfish enchiladas. Check out some of our favorite spots across Texas to satisfy your crawfish cravin’!
Crawfish Shack
If you visit just one crawfish spot this year, make it this one. The Crawfish Shack in Crosby is just outside Houston and it’s the number one destination for crawfish in the United States! This husband-and-wife team cooks up more crawfish than anywhere else in the country – 6,000 pounds every single day! There are lines out the door every day but it’s BYOB so you can make it a little party while you wait. If you want an authentic crawfish boil, this is the place! Check out the story we did with them in season 5 right here!
Stingaree Restaurant & Marina
A jewel of the Texas coast, the Bolivar Peninsula, features Crystal Beach and on that beach, you’ll find a Gulf Coast gem – Stingaree Restaurant & Marina. The most popular dish is the Cajun-style redfish Louie served on a bed of dirty rice and topped with crawfish etouffee with a side of fried crawfish tails. They also serve up a mean crawfish po’ boy! We featured this sensational restaurant last season – watch it here!
Gator’s Bayou
Gator’s Bayou in Lubbock brings the flavors of New Orleans to the high plains of Texas. You’ll find mashups like boudin-stuffed egg rolls packed with dirty rice and melted pepper jack cheese, and empanada-style hand pies filled with crawfish. They’ve also got crawfish etouffee, fried crawfish tails, and even crawfish benedict! We featured Gator’s Bayou in season 7. You can watch it right here.
Boo Ray’s
Cue the New Orleans jazz! Boo Ray’s in Fort Worth serves up Cajun classics along with a whole lotta’ crawfish! A New Orleans native, the chef here kicks up the recipes he learned at his mother’s side. The menu has crawfish popcorn, Natchitoches crawfish pies, shrimp and crawfish fondue, crawfish etouffee, and a creamy crawfish hollandaise sauce that’s good on just about anything! Watch the story we did with Boo Ray’s in season 6 right here!
Smashin’ Crab
You’re guaranteed to have a good time at Smashin’ Crab in San Antonio! You can order buckets of boiled seasonal crawfish at this popular spot but they’ve got so much more! Their menu is loaded with crawfish specialties, including crawfish fries, crawfish etouffee, crawfish boils (of course), a decadent crawfish cream sauce that you’ll want on everything, and Bayou bread, which is a sandwich made with crawfish etouffee and cheese on a garlic loaf. Bluewater Seafood
Bluewater Seafood in Houston is a dynamite spot for pristine ocean-to-table fish. The owner’s family has fishing boats that pluck seafood fresh from the Gulf and bring it straight to your table. Popular crawfish dishes include crawfish queso and chips, crawfish po’boys, crawfish tails with crawfish cream sauce, crawfish etouffee, fried crawfish, crawfish boils, and the outstanding crawfish pistolet. BB’s Cafe
BB’s Cafe has locations around Houston and a couple spots in San Antonio. You’ll get an authentic taste of N’awlins in this beloved spot. The secret behind BB’s award-winning po’ boys, gumbos, grillades & grits is the owner’s grandmother, “Maw Maw,” a Louisiana native with more than a few family recipes to share! The chefs serve up plenty of crawfish including crawfish etouffee, crawfish po’boys, and a to-die-for crawfish fettucine alfredo. Check out the story we did with BB’s Cafe way back in 2016 right here!
The Real New Orleans Style Restaurant
Two hurricane Katrina survivors turned their tragedy and talent into a New Orleans hot spot in Marble Falls, Texas. You won’t find better “Big Easy” in the Hill Country than at The Real New Orleans Style Restaurant. They’re serving up all your favorite French Quarter classics, of course, but they also sling up a pile of crawfish dishes that you don’t want to miss like fried crawfish tails, Cajun loaded fries with crawfish sauce, crawfish mac and cheese, boiled crawfish, crawfish po’boys, crawfish etouffee, and crawfish pasta.
