Lunch is served at San Antonio’s Brooke Army Medical Center for the Gary Sinise Foundation Invincible Spirit Festival. With over 120 Sysco Central Texas employees PLUS restaurant partners in the mix, it was a real honor to hand out over 8,000 meals to our nation’s men and women in uniform. They sacrifice so much for us daily!
This event is produced by the Gary Sinise Foundation. Gary Sinise & his Lt. Dan Band provided the entertainment for this patriotic block party. Celebrity Chef Robert Irvine (of Food Network’s Restaurant: Impossible) grilled for the wounded and even hand-delivered lunch to many of the wounded warriors unable to leave the hospital for the annual outdoor celebration.
Our cameras spotted some familiar faces from the local culinary scene in Central Texas. Leading volunteer efforts on the ‘foodie front lines’ were local restaurant owners (and members of Les Dames d’Escoffier) Blanca Aldaco and Lisa Wong. Everyone was thrilled to chip in and do their part for the troops.
The biggest smiles, however, came from the biggest stars: those who’ve dedicated their lives to serving our country. Our appreciation extends overseas and beyond!
