This weekend, Goodtaste offers an all-star salute to heroes and to the Lone Star State itself.
Wild Oats takes Texas pride to a whole new level—virtually every dish has Lone Star roots. This lively eatery is right next door to the newly revamped Houston Farmers Market, where chefs stroll through the market every day selecting fresh ingredients to put on your plate. Wild Oats’ claim to fame is the extra-crispy chicken-fried steak smothered in mashed potatoes and jalapeño bacon gravy. Some say it’s the best in the state. There’s only one way to find out!
Get ready for what just might be the best pizza in North Texas! With a dedicated “dough room,” Earl’s 377 Pizza in Argyle is a haven for pizza aficionados. The long list of wood-fired pizzas includes the BBQ Arezzo, topped with mozzarella, smoked chicken, roasted red peppers, and onions. But the real showstopper is the Spirit of a Hero pizza, featuring smoked brisket and barbecue-ranch sauce. This pie honors members of our military, with two dollars from every pizza donated to the Spirit of a Hero organization.
Next, it’s turkey time with expert pitmaster Barrett Black of The Original Black’s Barbecue in Lockhart. Barrett shows Tanji how to pick the perfect bird, trim excess fat, season it just right for a dry brine, do some extra prep for the smoker, and then send it for low and slow smoking. The final result is a juicy bird your whole family will enjoy this Thanksgiving!
Plus, we’ll get the lowdown on a kitchen item that some of the best chefs in Texas can’t live without.
Top off the week with this episode’s H-E-B wine finds!
