One of the most important ‘foodie’ fundraisers every year returns to the Bayou City for five whole weeks, beginning August 1st! When you dine out at participating locations during Houston Restaurant Weeks (HRW), a portion of your meal cost is donated directly to the Houston Food Bank. It’s a fantastic way to finally try that new restaurant you’ve heard so much about — and do a little good at the same time!
A growing list of restaurants offering specialized menus is available on the HRW website, but to get you started, here’s a peek at what some of our favorite spots we’ve featured on our TV series, Goodtaste with Tanji, have in-store!
Masraff’s is a consistent first choice for many diners. Dinner will be $45 and will accommodate those vegetarian, vegan or gluten free. Lookout for fresh, wild caught fish selections and incredible desserts. If you’re a regular reader here, you know this is one of my favorite H-town spots.
Next, for a one of a kind experience, Brennan’s of Houston offers a fantastic menu. You may choose brunch, lunch or dinner for HRW with house favorites like the Eggs Brennan (Eggs Benedict), Texas Blackened Redfish and Creole Bread Pudding. Let the good times roll!
Caracol is always a popular destination. Dinner is a go with curated Mexican seafood dishes from award-winning Chef Hugo Ortega. You’ll find a similar pedigree from Chef/Owner Mark Holley with Holley’s. Brunch, lunch and dinner will showcase culinary influences from the Texas Gulf to the Pan-Asian Pacific. Oh, and fabulous oysters!
Izakaya promises ingenious global takes on small plates at a bright, edgy Japanese gastropub in Midtown. The talented chef, Jean-Philippe Gaston is quite a character. I really enjoyed working with him!
Master Chef Paul Friedman is all set to ‘wow’ you at the only authentic South African restaurant in Texas, Peli Peli! I recommend the kebabs (beef or chicken) and save room for the popular Sticky Toffee Pudding with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.
Dinner is just $35 for three courses at State Fare Kitchen & Bar! Think kicked up country cookin’ like the Beaumont Boudin Stuffed 6 oz Chicken Breast with creole red gravy and blistered okra. These guys do a great brunch too.
Find even more delicious recipes and fun food and wine pairing ideas at Goodtaste.tv. And, don’t forget to “SET YOUR DVR!” for Goodtaste with Tanji, every Sunday morning at 5:30a on KPRC. Heads up! We’ll be back with a brand new season brimming with delicious destinations in September 2017, broadcasting statewide for the very first time! Stay tuned!
