This weekend on Goodtaste with Tanji, we make a trip to San Antonio for the famous over-the-top cheeseburgers at Cheesy Jane’s. Then, we’re stopping by New Braunfels at Freiheit Country Store for an ice cold beer and some down home cooking. Lastly, we head to Frisco for Nerdvana Food + Spirits where there’s a game console on every table with gamer-inspired bites, like the Hadouken Prime Beef — a little homage to Street Fighter. To tease your palate a little more, here are 3 must-not-miss moments in this week’s new episode of Goodtaste with Tanji Season 4.
1. Burgers that Give Back
Jon Lindskog, the owner of Cheesy Jane’s, has been driving his food truck all over San Antonio for more than 15 years. Every Thursday night, he visits the Warrior Family Support Center at Fort Sam Houston and makes milkshakes for military members and their families. He’s also driven his burger mobile over to the Miracle League of San Antonio for a decade. This organization provides children with mental and/or physical challenges an opportunity to play baseball.
2. Never Give Up
While at lunch with his daughter Sunni, Mike Reimer noticed a “for sale” sign outside of Freiheits, a long-standing local gathering place. Sunni encouraged him to purchase the restaurant even though he didn’t know much about owning one. Mike jumped at the opportunity and business grew quickly, all while Sunni was working at her dad’s side. Five years in, tragedy struck when a car accident took Sunni’s life. In the wake of such a horrible event, Freiheits began to struggle. Mike’s son Cody, along with his buddies, came to the rescue and added a live music venue to the restaurant. The business completely turned around, and Mike keeps it going today in his daughter’s memory.
3. A Gamer’s Love Story
Randy and Kristy’s love for gaming started at a young age. For Kristy, it was when she was 6 years old and her dad bought her an Atari. For Randy, it was when his dad built a computer for him. When the pair met in high school, the first game they played together was the original Final Fantasy on the 8-bit Nintendo. Their love was sealed. Now the couple is living out their passion in their careers and at their restaurant Nerdvana Food + Spirits. While not at the restaurant, Randy is the CEO of Gearbox and has created popular games such as Borderlands and Brothers In Arms and Kristy writes video game strategy guides.
Tune in this weekend for delicious food and MORE during the ALL NEW episode of Goodtaste with Tanji.
