Are you up for ice-cold cocktails and a game of darts? This weekend we take a trip to Tomball to visit Craft Grill where we try a flight of margaritas with creative flavors like Mango Habanero and Blackberry Mint. Then, we drive out to what seems like the “middle of nowhere” to taste farm-fresh eats like the Blue Cheese Wedge Salad in Schulenburg at The Garden Company. Our last stop is in Denton at the 940’s Kitchen and Cocktails. We stop by for a round of darts and to snack on Parmesan Eggplant Fries. To tease your palate a little more, here are 3 must-not-miss moments in this week’s new episode of Goodtaste with Tanji Season 4.
1. All in the Details
The owners of Craft Grill, Chris O’Donnell and Joe Copus, give attention to every detail of their restaurant including the building itself. Craft Grill’s windows came from the now-demolished Doris Duke 65,000 square-foot mansion in New Jersey. The windows were first installed there in 1885 in the mansion’s bamboo room, which is where Frank Sinatra was photographed for the first time. O’Donnell and Copus wound up buying the entire room’s windows and now have enough for two more restaurants.
2. Linking Up with Locals
Husband and wife duo, Jeff and Stevie Thompson, transformed a 100-year-old farmhouse and its grounds into a thriving garden store over a decade ago. One day, Stevie’s green thumb started itching for something more — a restaurant. Thinking she was onto something, Jeff started planning what they wanted in a restaurant and the most important was keeping everything Texas local, even the chef! They found their perfect partner close to home — chef Kenny Kopecky who grew up in Schulenburg. Chef Kopecky went to culinary school in Houston and had worked as an executive chef in some of Austin’s best kitchens including Annie’s Café Bar and Blue Star.
3. Bull’s-eye!
Well known for its craft cocktails and good food, 940’s Kitchen and Cocktails also happens to be the home of the top dart team in town. Both customers and employees (including executive chef Brandon Cristwell!), play on the dart team, DUCK!. The restaurant also is a regular venue for the Denton Area Darts Association where teams compete for a big trophy and, of course, bragging rights.
Tune in this weekend for delicious food and MORE during an ALL NEW episode of Goodtaste with Tanji.
