Our latest episode takes us first to a brand new seafood spot just up the road from Austin that’s all about local, fresh and fun. Not to mention a familiar face at the helm…Jack Gilmore is in the house!
After that, we make tracks to Boerne for a quaint bistro on the banks of Cibolo Creek. A taste of the Old World blended beautifully with farm-to-table ingredients. Grab a pint and pull up a chair!
Then, hop on for a ride to hamburger heaven at a bodacious burger bar in Houston. The chef behind these bulging creations was a former personal chef to a fan favorite Houston Rockets player. Here we go!
SALT TRADERS
Locals in Round Rock are already rejoicing for Salt Traders. This new coastal concept from Chef Jack Gilmore serves up Gulf classics in a cool, seaside inspired setting. Jack, a South Texas native, brought together everything he loves about the ocean. There’s Flat Top Fish Tacos crowned with candied jalapeños, avocado mousse and street corn salad. Or this Gulf of Mexico Shrimp Cocktail, a colossal concoction whose purchase benefits the Coastal Conservation Association:
It’s the Chowda Fries, however, that you’ll be chasing. Loaded with hand-cut Idaho potatoes and a rich, homemade clam chowder. Call it a kind of ‘coastal poutine’…we’ll have the recipe coming up this weekend!
AND – learn how you and a guest can win dinner for two at Salt Traders. We’ll tell you how when you tune in!
LITTLE GRETEL
You’re in for quite the story, along with a schnitzel or two, at Little Gretel – a quaint bistro on the banks of Cibolo Creek in Boerne. Owner/Chef Denise Mazal is originally from Czechoslovakia but threw caution, not to mention a shot at the Olympics, to the wind when she decided to pursue freedom and a new life in America. Hers is a heartwarming tale of courage and sacrifice, as well as the unbreakable bond of a mother and daughter.
Little Gretel sees traditional Czech cuisine combined with local Hill Country ingredients for a farm-to-table dining experience unlike anything else in the area.
BERNIE’S BURGER BUS
We’re going back to school on Bernie’s Burger Bus. Gourmet burgers with goofy names (The Substitute, Fire Drill and Class Clown) but serious flavor! The beef is Owner/Chef Justin Turner’s own special mix of chuck and brisket, ground fresh in-house everyday. Straight A’s for the Detention Burger, a creation made for a customer who complained Justin’s burgers weren’t big enough!
Try this on for size…two crispy bacon grilled cheeses used as a bun for two cheddar cheeseburger patties, “tipsy” onions, and all “the principal’s” fixings. Class dismissed!
Plus…
In celebration of the cooler weather, we’ll have red wines from regions outside of Napa. Some great bargains for my H-E-B Wine Finds of the week!
