Season 4 of Goodtaste with Tanji is here, so I hope you’re ready to eat. We’ll be trying giant, juicy beef ribs in Lockhart, cheesy deep-fried avocados in Lubbock and a clever mash-up of creamed corn and crème brûlée in Houston–amazing Texas eats you’ll want to taste! To tease your palate a little more, here are 3 things not to miss in this week’s season 4 premiere.
1. Four Generations of Barbeque
Black’s Barbeque in Lockhart all began when Edgar Black, the grandfather of present-day owner Ken Black, needed money during the Great Depression. So, he led a cattle drive to Lockhart and opened his own meat market and grocery store in 1932. This original market was located just across the street from the current restaurant.
2. A $100 Margarita
Wash down your Tex-Mex feast at Picoso’s Mexican Kitchen in Lubbock with their killer “Millionaire Margarita”. This impressive cocktail is made with your choice of top-shelf tequila, 100 year old Grand Marnier, fresh squeezed lime juice and cane sugar syrup, then served in a crystal glass. The $100 drink will set you back, but I promise, it might be the best margarita I’ve ever had!. But, keep in mind…ALL the profits from the restaurant are being donated, given back, to folks in need!
3. 1468° Temperature Swing
At Steak 48 in Houston, where they’re known for their superb prime meat, the in-house butcher shop is kept at a chilly 32°. After the steaks are cut and trimmed in this cold room, they’re quickly put under a 1500° broiler, going from freezing to sizzling hot in a matter of minutes. The result–the most juicy, flavorful steak you’ve likely ever tasted!
