After maybe our most flavorful season yet, how could we possibly pick a favorite dish from so many superstar selections? This weekend on Goodtaste, we attempt to do just that, revisiting some of the most unforgettable bites from Season 8, which took us from the backwoods bayous of Louisiana all the way to the plains of the Panhandle, where smoky Texas ’cue reigns supreme. Join Tanji as she goes back to the kitchen to sample another taste of such standouts as bacon-wrapped meatloaf, smoked carnitas nachos, and a $120 katsu sandwich.
Bring a hearty appetite to the legendary Freiheit Country Store in New Braunfels! We fill up on comfort-food classics with a side of great Texas tunes, then we go BIG with the famous Freiheit Extreme Burger—a half-pounder loaded with crispy bacon, melty cheese, mushrooms, and grilled onions.
We make our way to the Texas barbecue capital, Lockhart, and sit down with the “Queen of Texas Barbecue” herself, Norma Jean Black. She played a huge part in the success of The Original Black’s Barbecue by creating the first side dish ever sold there: her famous barbecue beans. She not only shares her recipe, but also a special technique called “bumpin’ the beans” that is integral to it.
Although leftovers aren’t always the most desirable option for dinner, you can actually save a lot of money by using them and you can dress them up in unexpected ways. Sysco Global Executive Chef Neil Doherty shares some key mistakes people make when reheating meals, then whips up an amazing Leftover Pot Pie using last night’s chicken and some tasty add-ons found in the fridge. The final dish will have you rethinking how you feel about leftovers!
Top off the week with this episode’s H-E-B wine finds!
