The end is in sight! ‘Wine down’ summer with Ralph my “Wine Guy,” who’s back for another monthly installment of wines you should keep an eye out for at your local H-E-B. It’s a great time for reds and whites — it all depends on what you fancy!

Pinot Noirs & Chardonnays – The Masters are Here

December 5, 2013 By Tanji Leave a Comment

The reason for our visit to Burgundy was to explore the highly acclaimed villages of the regions to become familiar with the many French wine appellations. For a region that only produces two varietals, chardonnay and pinot noir, the selection is extensive and the flavor profiles of the many AOC’s are so different.

Wine with a Hero of Mine… Sommelier Rajat Parr!

November 11, 2013 By Tanji Leave a Comment

This particular meeting was a real treat for me. I first met Sommelier Rajat Parr at RN74 in San Francisco — one of my very favorite restaurants anywhere. His book, Secrets of the Sommeliers, is an excellent guide for anyone with an interest in wine, no matter your experience level or familiarity.

Their state-of-the-art Enomatic Wine Dispenser allows you to taste some fancy names for cheap in comparison. There aren’t many places that you don’t have to commit to buying a pricey bottle in advance. Your taste test awaits!

The Right Red Wine, Red Meat & Chocolate Could Be Healthy

January 1, 2013 By Tanji Leave a Comment

What a start to the new year! Actually, in moderation, these ‘luxuries’ can be good for you. Let’s start with red meat—a particular kind of red meat. Next, chocolate – dark chocolate. Dark chocolate is loaded with antioxidant properties. Last but not least – red wine.

Beyond Napa There’s Mendocino

November 9, 2008 By Tanji Leave a Comment

Fall is a beautiful time to explore California wine country. We recently spent some time in the Mendocino area – if you’ve already done Napa and Sonoma, head a bit north to Mendocino. The cooler climate produces some wonderful Pinot Noirs and Gerwerstraminer wines.
