Napa Finds for Your Table
On a recent trip to Napa we had dinner at Michael Chiarello’s restaurant in Yountville called Bottega. Dinner was wonderful, and I fell in love with these hammered copper water glasses. Your water stays nice and chilled for a long while. But, that’s not all we found at his eclectic store next door to Bottega.
Amazing, year-round grilled steak
Whether it’s hot or cold outside, as Texans, it is pre-ordained that we spend lots of time at the grill! This is an amazing, year-round steak. The key is that it is dry-aged. Over time, the flavor builds to a delicious grade. You can’t find this at every supermarket.
Serious seafood on the River Walk
Soft Shell Crab is now in season…and one of the best places to sample some is at the Fig Tree on the River Walk. This gem has THE most romantic patio in the city! And the new tasting menu is a great way to experience some fabulous food and wine, at an inexpensive price.
Beautiful winery and gardens – Ferrari Carano
Plan on spending some time at this beautiful Sonoma winery. The grounds are spectacular—you’ll want to walk through their lush gardens. Be sure to look for the ‘cork’ tree…you’ll see up close and personal where those precious little wine stoppers come from.
The tasting room here is spacious with a great offering of gift items.
Domaine Carneros – Always my first stop
Whether heading into Napa or Sonoma, Domaine Carneros is the perfect first stop on your wine adventure. The beautiful majestic setting is the perfect spot to pop open a bottle of their delightful bubbly and celebrate your good fortune to be in wine country.

Lighten up your table for spring
This beautiful place setting is disposable, and you can wipe the mat clean with a damp rag. It’s a beautiful line of Caspari paper items that you can find at Las Finezas in Boerne, TX.
The Texas wines to try
If you’ve steered away from Texas wines because they don’t taste like Napa wines or French wines, it’s time to revisit the Lone Star vinos. A Texas cabernet will never taste like a Napa cab because the terroirs in the two regions are totally different—different soils, climates, etc.
Hello Houston!
Who knew going home could be so much fun! I grew up in Houston, and it’s great fun to come back and see so many cool changes. The house I lived in for elementary school is gone…City Center and a toll road replaced it.
Exploring Texas’ best wines
Wine is big business in Texas. There are nearly 200 wineries in the state fuelling an industry that has an economic impact to the tune of more than one billion dollars a year!

Wine Deals at Reef
I’m a big fan of the way Reef markets its 5000+ bottle collection of wines. The wine is priced to sell! It’s VERY reasonable. Plus, the selection is wonderful.
