Excite ALL of Your Senses at the All-New Piatti at Éilan

February 26, 2014 By Tanji Leave a Comment

All eyes on this impressive Italian expansion. One of my favorite restaurants, Piatti in the Quarry, has a stunning new location that’s just opened up inside the Éilan Hotel Resort & Spa! It also happens to be the site of my next Girls’ Night Out on Wednesday, March 19…

Creative Twists on the New Fall Menu at The Creek

September 29, 2013 By Tanji Leave a Comment

Nestled along the Cibolo, steps away from the Main Street bridge, is the fabulous Creek Restaurant — one of the very best in all of the Texas Hill Country! Fall is finally here, and with the holiday season on the horizon, The Creek’s new menu is as varied and delectable as you can imagine.

Best Oatmeal & Grits I’ve Tasted

April 4, 2011 By Tanji 2 Comments

In my ongoing adventure of exploring wonderful food and new wines, I see a common thread in Texas. More and more restaurants are sourcing locally produced products…often organic. The result is usually better tasting food.

There’s an interesting religious farming community just outside of Waco that’s becoming known for its artisan cheeses and grains. A number of your best restaurants in Houston, San Antonio and Dallas serve their products.

Wine Geeks & Foodies This One's for You

August 22, 2009 By Tanji Leave a Comment

We did it. We popped the cork on a 50 year old bottle of wine to begin a weeklong celebration of my birthday. (At this age why not!) It ‘was’ a 1959 Chateau Lynch-Bages from the Pauillac appellation in the Bordeaux region of France. This AVA region, by the way, produces three of Bordeaux’s five […]

Organic Produce Not Healthier?

July 30, 2009 By Tanji Leave a Comment

You’ll never convince me it’s true! A story on Reuters this week stated that organic food has no nutritional or health benefits over ordinary food. The study was conducted by an apparently well respected research institute in London (from the quick Google search I did). The reporter instinct in me is skeptical on many levels.

Want to Support Local Farmers…

May 10, 2009 By Tanji Leave a Comment

It hasn’t even ‘officially’ opened, but the buzz has already started about the Pearl Farmers Market. I got there early, about 7:30 a.m., Saturday morning while the tents were just going up. Fresh cucumbers, zucchinis, lettuces, red and gold beets, strawberries…you name it all being unloaded to sell in the market. Cora Lamar with Oak […]

The Ultimate Honor System

November 3, 2008 By Tanji Leave a Comment

While researching story ideas out in northern California, we fell in love with the incredible organic produce. We make every Farmer’s Market we can out here and cook freshly picked produce each night. We stumbled upon the coolest ‘tomato stand’ in Sonoma. Look at the sign closely – noone was manning the booth – you […]

Back to Nature at Benziger Winery

I recently spent an afternoon with Chris Benziger touring his family’s beautiful vineyards. The Benzigers are not only farming their grapes organically but also biodynamically.
